Rich in Color and Meaning The Paintings of Andean Artist Mateo Pisarro Gina Gonzalez Paper
In this paper, we travel back to the Puna of the Atacama from the late seventeenth century and meet the colonial artist Mateo Pisarro.
During his commission for the Marqués in Puna, Pisarro creates several iconographic pieces for the churches within the Valley of Tojo, part of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata.
We will explore the dynamic role of the Marqués, discover the pigment alchemy within the paintings, discuss the subject matter, and the passion that artist Mateo Pisarro used in creating his artwork.
